St. George's Arts and Science College inaugurated the Youth Red Cross Society (YRCS) on 29 July 2026 at 12:00 p.m. in the Central Hall, marking the beginning of a meaningful initiative aimed at nurturing humanitarian values and social responsibility among students. The programme commenced with an opening prayer led by Dr. B. Sharmila, invoking God's blessings for the success of the newly inaugurated club and its future endeavours. The atmosphere was one of anticipation as students and faculty gathered to witness the launch of a club dedicated to serving humanity. The Principal, Dr. V. Victor Solomon, delivered the welcome address, warmly welcoming the distinguished chief guest, faculty members, and students. In his address, he highlighted the significance of the Youth Red Cross Society in shaping compassionate and socially responsible individuals. He encouraged students to actively participate in the club's initiatives and make meaningful contributions to society through selfless service. Following the welcome address, Dr. R. Subitha Rani introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. J. Sulaiman, Youth Red Cross Chennai District Organiser from The New College, Chennai. She acknowledged his dedicated service to the Red Cross movement and his commitment to inspiring young people to embrace humanitarian values. As a mark of respect and appreciation, Dr. V. Victor Solomon, Principal, felicitated the chief guest and expressed gratitude for his gracious presence and willingness to share his expertise with the students. In his keynote address, Dr. J. Sulaiman delivered an informative and inspiring session on the history and mission of the Red Cross Movement. He explained the origin of the organisation and its enduring commitment to alleviating human suffering across the globe. He also elaborated on the Red Cross emblem, explaining the symbolism of the logo and the humanitarian principles it represents, including humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. The chief guest further highlighted the numerous benefits of being a Youth Red Cross member, emphasizing how participation in the society helps students develop leadership qualities, teamwork, discipline, compassion, and a spirit of volunteerism. He encouraged students to make the most of the opportunities provided through the club by actively engaging in community outreach programmes and social service initiatives. He particularly stressed the importance of organising health and wellness camps, blood donation awareness programmes, first-aid training sessions, health education drives, and various community welfare activities. Through these initiatives, he urged students to become agents of positive change and contribute meaningfully to the well-being of society. The session concluded with an engaging Question and Answer segment, during which students enthusiastically interacted with the chief guest. Their thoughtful questions reflected genuine interest in the activities and objectives of the Youth Red Cross Society, and Dr. Sulaiman addressed each query with clarity, motivating students to take an active role in the organisation. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Divyadharshini, a student of III B.Com. (General). She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest for his enlightening and motivational address, the Principal for his constant encouragement, the faculty members for their support, and all the students for their enthusiastic participation in making the inauguration a memorable event. The inauguration concluded on a highly positive note, with students expressing great enthusiasm about becoming members of the Youth Red Cross Society. Inspired by the chief guest's message, they left the programme with a renewed sense of purpose and a strong commitment to serving the community through humanitarian activities. The event successfully instilled the core values of compassion, volunteerism, and social responsibility, laying a strong foundation for the Youth Red Cross Society at St. George's Arts and Science College.
