About the Programme

The Department of Commerce at St. George’s Arts & Science College was established in the year 2020 with the objective of providing quality commerce education aligned with contemporary business needs. In today’s dynamic and competitive global environment, commerce education plays a vital role in economic growth and business sustainability. The impact of globalization, liberalization, and privatization has further increased the relevance of advanced commerce studies.

The M.Com (Master of Commerce – General) programme was introduced in the year 2026. It is a two-year postgraduate course offered under the semester system (four semesters) and follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The programme is designed to impart advanced knowledge in commerce, accounting, finance, and management, along with developing analytical, managerial, and research-oriented skills.

The curriculum is systematically structured to ensure progressive learning. The first year focuses on core and advanced subjects such as Advanced Corporate Accounting, Management Theory, Entrepreneurship, and Quantitative Techniques for Business Decisions. The second year emphasizes applied and specialized areas including Financial Management, Research Methodology, Service Marketing, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behaviour, and Financial Markets, along with electives.

The programme also includes project work and research components, enabling students to gain practical exposure and academic proficiency. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in corporate sectors, banking, finance, academics, research, and entrepreneurship.
