Women’s Empowerment Cell

St.George’s Arts amp; Science College celebrated International Women 39;s Day on 8 th March, 2023 and embraced the occasion to honor all women in the campus for their contributions and dedication, not only as Faculty members, administrators, students, or helpers but also as strong pillars of the organization who carry out their duties gracefully. The Gender Sensitization and Women Empowerment Committee in collaboration with the Fine Arts Club of the college organized different competitions and cultural events to high light the importance of Women in the Society.

The official ceremony started with a prayer song by St. George 39’s choir. Mrs.Isabel Manoharan (Chief Accounts Manager) rendered the opening prayer invoking God 39’s blessings. Mrs. Smitha, the GSWEC coordinator, welcomed the gathering and introduced the theme of International Women’s Day 2023- DigitALL: Digital Technologies and Innovations for Gender Equality. Dr. V.Victor Solomon, Principal officially inaugurated the festivities. During his speech he urged the importance of the day by emphasizing excellence of women in domestic as well as professional fields and advised the students to Respect the Women always. Mr.K.Ashwin Kumar (I BBA), Mr.Harish Ram (II B.Com.G.) amp; Mr.Naveen R. (II B.Com.G.) felicitated the women by highlighting the importance of ladies in home and in every walk of life. Ms.Amber Linda Rodrigues (II B.Com.G.) recited a poem by Maya Angelou and dedicated to all the women. The achievement of women in society was highlighted through a musical performance by the students. Ms.Lincy (Physical Education Dept. in Charge, St.George’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School) took a self defense demonstration to the students on how to react in an emergency threat. To celebrate the excellence of all women, a dance was performed by the girl students. Fine Arts Club Secretary Ms. Rine Hart coordinated these events along with the esteemed faculties, Mr.E.David, Dr.S.Jayshree, Dr.R.Rajalakshmi, Mr.Madhusudhanan, Dr.Subitha Rani & Dr.J.Anupriya. The prizes were announced for the women’s day contests which were held prior to the program. Then Anthakshari competition euphoniously performed by the staff members enthralled the students. Girls participated in a ramp walk and showcased their talents. To conclude the session, Ms. R.Triha (GSWEC student’s coordinator) proposed the Vote of Thanks. The program ended with cake cutting and photo sessions. The entire program was anchored by Ms.Karishma (President of Public speaking club).
