About the Programme

The Master of Arts in Christian Studies was introduced in the year 2026 at St. George’s Arts & Science College and is affiliated with the University of Madras. It is a two-year postgraduate programme dedicated to the academic and spiritual exploration of Christian theology, history, ethics, and ministry.

The programme is designed to nurture intellectually grounded and socially responsible individuals by engaging them in critical reflection on faith within contemporary global and cultural contexts. The curriculum offers a comprehensive understanding of Biblical Studies, Systematic Theology, Church History, Pastoral Care, and Interreligious Dialogue.

It equips students with analytical, interpretative, and research skills essential for theological scholarship and meaningful societal engagement. Emphasis is also placed on ethical leadership, social justice, and community development. Through a blend of academic learning and practical exposure, students are prepared for diverse roles in education, ministry, counselling, and social service, contributing constructively to both the Church and society.

Core, Allied & Skill-Based Subjects (as per UOM)

The programme includes core subjects such as Biblical Hermeneutics, Systematic Theology, Church History, Christian Ethics, and Pastoral Theology. Allied subjects cover areas like Philosophy of Religion, Sociology of Religion, and Interfaith Studies to provide interdisciplinary perspectives. Skill-Based courses focus on counselling techniques, communication skills, research methodology, and field-based ministry training, enhancing both academic competence and practical application.
