St. George’s Arts & Science College commemorated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15 August 2026 at the College Ground with great patriotic fervour, dignity, and enthusiasm. The celebration brought together the Management, faculty members, and students in a spirit of national pride, unity, and collective responsibility. The programme commenced with an Opening Prayer, invoking blessings for the nation and the institution. This was followed by the Opening Hymn, “O God, Our Help in Ages Past,” which set a solemn and reflective tone for the celebration. The rendition of Tamil Thai Vazhthu further marked the beginning of the programme with reverence and respect. The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. V. Victor Solomon, Principal, who extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students and highlighted the significance of Independence Day as a celebration of freedom, responsibility, and national unity. The ceremonial Flag Hoisting was performed by Dr. G.K. Francis, Founder & Secretary, symbolising the nation’s hard-won freedom and the collective responsibility of every citizen to uphold its democratic and constitutional values. The Independence Day Speech was delivered by Dr. Pooja S.N. and Dr. Bagyaraj V., who reflected upon the meaning of independence and encouraged students to recognise their role in shaping a responsible, inclusive, and progressive society. This was followed by the Independence Day Address by Dr. G.K. Francis, Founder & Secretary. His inspiring words emphasised the importance of patriotism, discipline, education, integrity, and social responsibility, motivating the young generation to contribute positively to the nation’s growth and future. Adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration, the students presented a cultural dance performance, which beautifully expressed patriotism, unity, and the diverse cultural spirit of India. The performance, enriched by creative elements of movement and expression, showcased the students’ talent, teamwork, and artistic excellence. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mr. V. Vasanth Raj, expressing gratitude to the Management, dignitaries, Principal, faculty members, students, and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the celebration. The ceremony culminated with the National Anthem, bringing the celebration to a dignified close and leaving the gathering with a renewed sense of pride, gratitude, and commitment to the nation. The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that independence is not merely the freedom we inherit, but a responsibility we carry forward through integrity, unity, service, and meaningful contribution to society.
